Amazon Pantry back online, resumes services in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune

Amazon Pantry , the company’s daily essentials store for Prime members, is back online and is accepting orders in a few cities after temporarily shutting down last week due to the lockdown. It is now serviceable in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune for select pincodes. Pantry offers essentials including food, beverages, household supplies, health and beauty products at discounted rates. “We are prioritising deliveries of existing orders. Deliveries of new orders could take 7-10 days,” said the e-commerce company. Amazon Pantry was delivering essentials in over 100 cities across India before suspending services temporarily when the country entered the 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19. COVID-19: Google Bengaluru employee infected; staff told to work from home

A Google employee at its Bengaluru office has been tested positive for the novel coronavirus and the company has told all its employees to work from home. After Dell India and Mindtree, this is the third case where an employee of a tech giant has been diagnosed with coronavirus in the country. "We can confirm that an employee from our Bangalore office has been diagnosed with COVID-19. They were in one of our Bangalore offices for a few hours before developing any symptoms," a company spokesperson said in a statement. The employee has been on quarantine since then, and Google has asked colleagues who were in close contact with the employee to quarantine themselves and monitor their health. "Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking employees in that Baengaluru office to work from home tomorrow (Friday)," said Google. Read More

Retail, FMCG sectors to add 276,000 new jobs in April-September: Report

Retail and fast moving consumer goods and durables (FMCG&D) sector together is likely to add 276,000 new jobs in the first six months of the current financial year following the entry of foreign retail giants, the report said. According to TeamLease Services biannual ' Employment Outlook ' report for the April-September 2019-20, the retail sector will witness a 2 per cent increase in net employment outlook, resulting in the addition of 166,000 new jobs while (FMCG/D) will see a 1 per cent growth adding 110,000 new jobs. With 27,560 new jobs, Delhi will top the list in retail followed by Bengaluru with at 22,770 new jobs, it said. The report revealed that the exponential growth witnessed by the sector coupled with entry of foreign retail giants, capacity expansion and acquisitions are some of the key drivers of the job growth. Wistron Corp has begun manufacturing iPhone 7 in India, confirms Apple

One of Apple's key manufacturers, Wistron Corp, has begun manufacturing iPhone 7 locally in India, Apple has confirmed. The handset is being manufactured out of its facility at Narasapura in Kolar district, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Earlier only iPhone 6s and SE models were manufactured out of the unit. "We are proud to be producing iPhone 7 in Bengaluru for our local customers furthering our long-term commitment in India,” an Apple India spokesperson said in an emailed statement. That it would produce higher-end devices was anticipated when Wistron announced plans to open the Narasapura facility, its second in India after Peenya, in June 2018. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer, which also manufacturers for Xiaomi and Nokia, has taken up a 43-acre land parcel and plans to invest Rs3,000 crore in the unit in a phased manner.
