  Kia Motors India on Wednesday said it has received over 50,000 bookings for its compact SUV Sonet within two months of commencing the process. This record booking number affirms Sonet's status as a game-changer by customers in the highly competitive compact SUV category, the company said in a statement. The 50,000 booking milestone by the model has been attained within two months of opening of bookings on August 20, it added. "The company received a staggering response from Indian consumers, with an average of two orders placed every three minutes since it started accepting bookings," Kia Motors India said. In September, 9,266 units of the Sonet were dispatched, making it the leader of the compact SUV segment within 12 days of its price announcement and market launch, it noted. Read More

Asia’s biggest motor show drew to a close on Wednesday bringing the curtains down on the six-day extravaganza. Even though it fell short of the overall number of participation, it was one of the biggest in terms of partaking by new entrants. Beating the slowdown that has sapped buyer’s sentiments and hit volumes at auto companies for the past year-and-a-half, a total of 608,526 people visited the show at the Great Noida Expo Mart between February 7 and 12, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam). With a peek into the future of mobility via green technologies, the exposition included 352 product displays from 108 exhibitors. This included eight global premiers and over 70 launches and unveils. It also comprised introduction of 35 electric vehicles and 15 concepts. Korean auto major Kia Motors on Thursday made its debut in India with the launch of an SUV, Seltos, at an introductory price of Rs 9.69 lakh. Seltos , a mid-sized SUV, is manufactured at the carmaker's Ananthpur plant in Andhra Pradesh. The model comes in both petrol and diesel variants. Kia has entered the Indian market at a time when the domestic automotive industry is facing the worst slowdown in more than two decades. The company has already seen as many as 32,035 bookings till date, said Manohar Bhat, vice president and head of marketing, Kia Motors.
