The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India had eight of its models in SIAM's ten best-selling passenger vehicles list in May, even as the overall automobile market witnessed a sharp decline. The company's popular hatchback Swift was the best-selling model last month clocking 17,039 units, up from fourth spot in the same month last year when it sold 19,208 units, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Coming in second was entry level model Alto with sale of 16,394 units as against 21,890 units in year-ago month, retaining the same spot. MSI's compact sedan Dzire sold 16,196 units last month, occupying third position, down from the top spot in the same month last year when it clocked 24,365 units. Premium hatchback Baleno sold 15,176 units to be at fourth position, down from third in May last year when it registered 19,398 units. After making frequent cameos on internet and different websites for a long time, Maruti Suzuki India rolled out the next-gen Ertiga in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 744,000 for the base model with petrol engine to Rs 1.09 million for the top-spec diesel unit. The MPV ( Multi-Purpose Vehicle ) is offered in ten different options based on fuel type and transmission, and the tentative waiting period of the all-new MPV are two to four weeks. The second-generation Ertiga is bigger than the previous version, offers 10 per cent better fuel efficiency lighter than the outgoing one, thanks to Maruti Suzuki's new 5th generation HEARTECT platform, that also underpins a lot of other Maruti cars like Swift, Dzire, Ignis and Baleno. Mahindra is about to launch its much awaited multipurpose vehicle (MPV), Mahindra Marazzo , today. The name has been derived from a Spanish word of Basque origin which translates into ‘shark’ in English. The Marazzo, the first passenger car developed at Mahindra’s North American Technical Centre, has been co-designed by Pininfarina and Mahindra’s design studio in Kandivali, Mumbai. The design of the Marazzo is said to be inspired by a shark. Several elements – inside and out – have been styled to mimic certain aspects of a shark, says Ananthan Ramkripa, chief designer at Mahindra. Speaking at the name-reveal event, M&M Managing Director Pawan Goenka had said: “The shark-inspired Marazzo symbolises the next generation of aspirational Mahindra vehicles. A collaborative effort of Pininfarina, Mahindra Design Studio, MNATC and MRV, the Marazzo is born of a vision to design a global vehicle with quality and refinement keeping in mind the aspirations of our customers.” Mah
