Mumbai local trains resume for 'essential' govt staff; rules framed

The Indian Railways restarted on Monday Mumbai suburban train services for transporting essential staff identified by the government. The Western Railways will run 73 pairs of suburban services, including eight between Virar and Dahanu Road, while the Central Railways will run 200 services – including 130 between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Kasara and 70 services between CSMT and Panvel. The first suburban train started from Virar for Churchgate on Monday morning. An estimated 125,000 essential staff, as identified by the state government, is expected to travel by these trains. “These special suburban services will not be for general passengers/public & will be strictly for essential staff as identified by the State Government of Maharashtra only,” said a railways statement. After Indian Railways resumed passenger train services in the country in a "phased" manner with 15 pairs of trains from 12 May, 2020, the national transporter is now running another 200 special trains since June 1. This development comes in a move to let citizens travel to their hometowns amid the nationwide lockdown, imposed to combat spread of the novel coronavirus in the country. More than 145,000 passengers had travelled on Monday when 200 special trains started their operations. Train ticket booking resumes today on IRCTC: Things to know before travel

The Indian Railways will resume train bookings through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) from today, almost two months after its services were suspended in view of coronavirus lockdown . During the lockdown period, Railways has so far operated its freight services to transport essential goods across the country and ‘Shramik Special’ trains to ferry stranded migrant workers to their home states. Railways is planning to gradually restart passenger train operations from tomorrow, initially with 15 pairs of trains (30 return journeys.) These trains will be run as special trains from New Delhi station connecting Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad, and Jammu Tawi. Covid-19: How Indian Railways is transforming coaches into isolation wards

With cases of coronavirus escalating in the country, the government has come up with measures including converting number of places into isolation wards. In view of this, Indian railways, the operator of the fourth-biggest network in the world, has started converting more than 5,000 train coaches into isolation wards, fearing the country may not have adequate infrastructure to combat the pandemic. "Out of the 17 railway zones in India, the Railway Board has asked Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and the Northern Railway to modify train coaches into isolation wards on experimental basis to deal with patients of novel coronavirus," the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Subhanan Chanda told IANS. He said such a plan can help the government and all other authorities to be well-prepared to meet any emergency. Candidates can download RRB JE CBT 2 city intimation and travel pass from RRB website. The exam is scheduled to be conducted from August 28 to September 1. The RRB JE CBT 2 admit card will be released four days prior to the exam, that is, by August 23. The recruitment exams are being conducted to fill 13,487 vacant posts. Of the total, 12,872 posts are for JEs and 227 and 387 vacancies are for DMS and CMA positions, respectively.
