Auto Expo 2020: Mercedes Benz to launch electric SUV EQC in April

German luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz will kick off its EV journey in India with the launch of electric SUV EQC model in April, as it mulls more such products to be introduced here. The company is analysing which electric vehicle could be launched in India out of the ten electric vehicles (EVs) that it is planning to launch globally in the next two years. It is also considering local assembly of some models. "We are introducing the EQC in the (Indian) market. We are quite bullish on this segment. What we see today is a GST advantage in selling fully electric vehicles," Mercedes-Benz Cars Head overseas region Matthias Luehrs told reporters here on the sidelines of Auto Expo. The company, therefore, sees the government supporting in the strategy of electrification into the Indian market. "We are building on that. Daimler AG Chief Executive Officer Ola Kallenius paused an ambitious cost-cutting campaign long enough on Monday to unveil a futuristic concept vehicle inspired by one of the most expensive Hollywood blockbusters ever made. The Mercedes-Benz AVTR , named after the environmentally-conscious sci-fi film Avatar, is designed to showcase a melding of human and machine interaction for a mode of transport “in the very distant future,” according to the German carmaker. Oscar-winning director James Cameron joined Kallenius on stage at MGM Park Theater to debut the vehicle during the Consumer Electronics Show, now called CES, in Las Vegas. The electric-powered car features a fully recyclable battery, lateral crab-like movement and no steering wheel. German auto major Mercedes-Benz Thursday made a foray into the luxury multi-purpose vehicles segment in India with the launch of its V-Class at a starting price of Rs 68.40 lakh. The V-Class will be available in both six-seater long-wheelbase (Exclusive) and seven-seater extra-long-wheelbase (Expression) variants, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement. While the V-Class Expression starts at Rs 68.40 lakh, the V-Class Exclusive starts at Rs 81.90 lakh (all prices ex-showroom India), it added. Continuing Mercedes-Benz's BS-VI transition efforts, the V-Class will be available in a 2-litre BS VI-compliant diesel engine, the company said. "The launch of the V-Class in India firmly underscores our pioneering spirit as we introduce the 'Luxury Multi-Purpose Vehicle' segment for our discerning Indian customers," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Martin Schwenk said. Mercedes unveils SUV AMG G 63 with 4L V8 bi-turbo diesel engine for 21.9 mn

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz Friday launched a new version of its premium SUV AMG G 63 priced at Rs 21.9 million (ex-showroom). The model comes powered by a 4-litre V8 bi-turbo diesel engine that generates 585 hp of power. It can attain 100 km/h from standstill in 4.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 220 km/h. "The extreme rock-climbing abilities combined with sports car performance, class-leading styling and a high-tech cabin makes the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 yet another legend in the making," Mercedes-Benz India Vice President, Sales and Marketing Michael Jopp told reporters here.
