Streaming platform Netflix may soon crack down on password sharing

  Streaming giant Netflix is testing a new feature that could help it crack down on password sharing where it is rolling out alerts asking users to verify they are authorized to watch on the account to be able to keep watching. "This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement as quoted by CNN adding that the company's terms of service say accounts "may not be shared with individuals beyond your household." CNN reported that when a user selects their profile on a shared Netflix account, a pop-up will ask them to verify the account by confirming with a text or email sent to the account holder. Users can also choose to verify later, in which case, the pop-up will show up again at an undetermined later time.   The central government has said that digital current affairs and news portals along with online content providers such as Netflix and Hotstar have been brought under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, presently headed by Prakash Javadekar.   Digital current affairs and news portals along with online content providers such as Netflix and Hotstar have been brought under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central government said in an order. Presently, India does not have an autonomous body that governs online content. The notification, which was signed by President Ram Nath Kovind, detailed that films, audio-visual programmes, news and current affairs content online platforms be brought under the ministry of information and broadcasting, presently headed by Prakash Javadekar. The print media is currently overlooked by the Press Council of India and the News Broadcasters Association represents television news channels in the country. Netflix is offering a HD subscription at Rs 349 per month, as a part of its new test plan. The new subscription plan supports smartphone, tablet or even computer but can be used one device at a time. Since the plan is currently in testing so everyone may not see it. The new test plan spotted by Android Pure is much affordable than the Netflix's basic plan. At Rs 499 per month, the basic plan offers Standard Definition streaming on any phone, tablet, computer or TV at a time. Its rivals including Prime videos by Amazon and Disney Hotstar offer subscriptions at different prices.   Prime videos provide monthly subscription at Rs 129 per month. TikTok's Family Pairing feature let parents have control on kids' profile

Short video-sharing platform TikTok on Thursday introduced 'Family Pairing' feature, which allows parents to have control over their children activities on the app, by linking their own account with their kids, with a caveat that children have to approve this. The move will give parents more control over the user activity of their kids as they can set controls on 'Screen Time Management', 'Direct Messages' and 'Restricted Mode'. "Family Pairing enhances our suite of safety tools and complements our work to provide greater access to product features as users reach key milestones for digital literacy," the company said in a statement on Friday. Short video streaming platform Quibi arrives in India: Know price, features

The much-hyped mobile streaming service Quibi that offers " quick-bite " original content of 10 minutes or less for smartphone users has arrived in India, offering users a new entertainment platform starting Monday amid the COVID-19 lockdown. Led by longtime Hollywood executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, the service is now available for a 90-day free trial for users. After the free trial is over, it will charge Indian users Rs 669 per month. While Katzenberg is Quibi's Founder and Chairman of the Board, Whitman is the platform's CEO.
