#MeToo movement: Defamation charge against journalist who outed MJ Akbar

A Delhi court Wednesday admits defamation charge against journalist Priya Ramani in a case filed by ex-Union minister M J Akbar after she levelled allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Ramani, who appeared before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. Akbar, who resigned as Union minister on October 17 last year, filed a private criminal defamation complaint against Ramani after his name cropped up on social media as the #MeToo campaign raged on in India. Ramani accused Akbar of sexual misconduct, a charge denied by him. The court listed the matter for hearing on May 4 and also granted permanent exemption to Ramani from personal appearance. Yoga can save government, families' healthcare costs: Suresh Prabhu

Practicing yoga regularly can enable governments and individual households save on healthcare costs, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu said here on Monday. Speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day international yoga conference, Prabhu said that yoga helps provide the right balance between providing good healthcare without burdening individual households or governments. "If you do yoga regularly, it will prevent diseases, it will make life better with almost no cost. The governments will not be burdened with costs, nor households will have to face the big challenge of how to provide hospitalization to the family members," the Minister said. Banks to fund Rs 1.30 trillion for highway construction: Nitin Gadkari

The present government has doubled that length to 180,000 km Current Affairs News : Banks have assured funding to the tune of Rs 1.30 trillion for highways construction, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday. He said 403 projects worth Rs 3.85 trillion were stalled during the UPA regime. The present NDA government, after assuming power in May 2014, has put on track Rs 3 trillion worth stalled projects. Gadkari said he has held meetings with banks, RBI Governor and Union Finance Minister regarding funding to the road sector. "Banks have informed me in writing that they are ready to give Rs 1.30 trillion for funding of highway projects built in EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) mode," Gadkari said during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. He said till May 2014 the length of National Highways in the country was 91,000 km, which was insufficient to support growing number of vehicles as auto industry has recorded an an
