Play old Sony PlayStation games on new Microsoft Xbox series S and X

Image
Microsoft will not love this news but developers have emulated old Sony PlayStation games onto the new Microsoft Xbox Series X and S gaming consoles . Using a technology called RetroArch emulator, developers worked on the "Developer Mode" in Xbox Series X/S gaming consoles which can help add the emulation software as a Universal Windows Application (UWA). It allows users to download a retail version of the emulation software directly to their gaming console, reports The Verge. Microsoft doesn't officially support this kind of emulation and PCSX2 support is still in progress. To add RetroArch to Xbox using Developer Mod, one needs to pay a $19 registration fee to be part of Microsoft's Developer programme. They can then download the "Dev mode activation" app from the Xbox store. Read More

Microsoft plans to bring Xbox gaming app direct on your smart TVs

Microsoft is planning to bring its gaming console Xbox app on Smart TVs over the next year, which means people can stream Xbox games directly from their TVs soon. In an interview with The Verge, Microsoft Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed this plan. "I think you're going to see that in the next 12 months. I don't think anything is going to stop us from doing that," said Spencer when asked about turning the Xbox into a TV app. While Microsoft is pushing its xCloud gaming service, the company has no plans to abandon consoles or hardware. The Xbox Series X and Series S gaming consoles went on sale on November 10 internationally. Despite launching the middle of a global pandemic, Xbox has beaten all previous console launch records with its new systems, Spencer had said earlier. Read More

Microsoft Xbox series supply shortages to continue till April 2021

Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are projected to be in short supply until at least April next year. The overwhelming number of pre-orders resulted in a limited supply of consoles available on launch day and even some early buyers will need to wait until after the holidays for their pre-orders to be fulfilled. "I think we will continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter," Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference on Monday. "We are gonna have more demand than we do supply, and I will apologize in advance to people for that. I think we are gonna live in that world for a few months that we're going to have a lot more demand than we do supply," he said. Interestingly, Xbox chief Phil Spencer tried to set expectations about short supply at the end of October. Read More

Microsoft's 2nd next-generation Xbox may launch in August: Report

A leaked Microsoft document has revealed that the company's second next-gen Xbox will be fully revealed in August. Microsoft had originally planned to unveil the console, codenamed "Lockhart", in June, but now the tech giant has moved these plans to August, reports Eurogamer. Project Lockhart, or Xbox Series S, is expected to be a cheaper and less powerful version of the Xbox Series X, unlike Sony's PS5 Digital Edition, which will be a standard PS5 but without an optical drive. While Microsoft has not acknowledged Lockhart, the codename can also be found in the company's Xbox One operating system, alongside references to Anaconda and Dante. The Xbox Lockhart will come with 7.5 GB of usable RAM and 4 teraflops of GPU performance. It will reportedly support 1080p or 1440p gaming. Read More
