Monsoon arrives in Mumbai; local train services hit after heavy rains


 

The south-west monsoon arrived in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas on Wednesday, the IMD announced as heavy rains lashed the country's financial capital and suburbs since early morning.

Local train services from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji MaharajTerminus (CSMT) to neighbouring Thane and Vashi in Navi Mumbai were suspended due to water-logging on some railway tracks, officials said.

Routes of some BEST buses run the city civic body's transport wing were also diverted, they said.

A high tide of over four metres is expected around noon in the Arabian Sea, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

"It's monsoon arrival in Mumbai today," said Dr Jayanta Sarkar, head of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Mumbai office. Read More

Flag at half mast: India in 7-day state mourning for Pranab Mukherjee.

  National flags at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament were at half-mast on Tuesday as the country observes a 7-day State mourning following the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee . The state mourning is being observed throughout the country from August 31 to September 6 as a mark of respect to the former President, who passed away on Monday. "As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days state mourning will be observed throughout India from August 31 to September 6, both days inclusive. During the period of state mourning, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all buildings throughout India, where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment," the Ministry of Home Affairs said in an official release. Mukherjee, 84, passed away on Monday at the Army Hospital (Research and Referral) Hospital where he was admitted earlier this month and had undergone surgery for removal of a clot in his brain. Samsung to launch Galaxy M30 with three rear cameras, 5000mAh battery today

South Korean electronics major Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy M30 on February 27 at 6 PM. The India-first smartphone will be the third device in the M-series . The other two Galaxy M20 (review) and the Galaxy M10 (review) were launched in January 2019. Some of the key features include a triple rear camera module, Infinity-U shaped notch screen, 5,000mAh battery, and the Exynos 7904 processor, according to Samsung. The recent Instagram post by the company also confirms that the phone will come with a 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage variant. The post also confirmed that the phone will have a microSD card slot for storage expansion, supporting up to 512 storage chip.
