IPL 2019 RCB vs KKR Preview: Virat Kohli's RCB look to end drought of win

Image
In Match 17 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. Virat Kohli faces a herculean task of taking his team to first win of this edition of IPL as the team has suffered back-to-back defeats in first four matches and are now seated at the eighth and the last spot at 2019 IPL points table. On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik-led Kolkata Knight Riders won their first two matches comfortably but Delhi denied them a hat-trick of wins as they snatched victory in the super over. Andre Russell has been in supreme form RCB bowlers would be busy preparing for a way to get rid of him before he starts demolishing. Royal Challengers Bangalore have all faced everything opposite to their expectations, they are now 0-4 down and considering the form and the opponent, it would be a huge task for Virat Kohli to bring his team out of this position. Last seven months were toughest, now my focus is on IPL, World Cup: Pandya

Image
India and Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya termed the last seven months as the toughest period of his life when he "did not know what to do" in the wake of the controversy surrounding his outrage-evoking comments on women. Pandya, who helped MI beat Chennai Super Kings in an IPL game in Mumbai, was initially suspended by the BCCI and sent back to India from the Australia tour following his comments on a chat show earlier this year. Later, the suspension was provisionally lifted pending an inquiry. The 25-year-old said he has left behind the controversy. "It feels pretty good to help the team to win and contribute. It's been seven months that I've hardly played games. They weren't easy and I didn't know what to do. I've just batted and batted. I want to improve my game every day. It's a fantastic feeling batting like that and making your team win," he said. Pandya, who smashed an 8-ball 25 not out and then picked up three

IPL 2019, DC vs SRH preview: Delhi look to overcome lower-order woes

Image
In Match 16 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Delhi Capitals (DC) will play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Ferozshah Kotla ground in New Delhi on Thursday. DC skipper Shreyas Iyer's task is to sort out his team’s lower-order and get some consistency in their remaining IPL 2019 fixtures. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are in great form as their openers--David Warner and Jonny Bairstow--scored centuries against Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, it will be interesting to see whether SRH’s regular captain Kane Williamson is fit to make a comeback in SRH playing 11. Delhi Capitals are currently placed at fifth spot at 2019 IPL points table with two wins and as many losses after four games while SRH are placed at third position with two wins and one loss but they have best net run rate (2.111) among eight teams. A new-look Delhi Capitals began IPL 2019 with a superb win over three-time former champions Mumbai Indians but since then they have struggled with

IPL 2019 MI vs CSK preview: Can Mumbai stop Chennai's winning streak?

Image
In Match 15 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Mumbai Indians will look to stop the winning spree of Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. However, CSK will go into the match as favourites after winning their first three IPL 2019 matches. They are placed at the top of 2019 IPL points table with six points while Mumbai Indians are placed seventh with one victory and two defeats. Mumbai Indians team management would look to make some changes in their playing 11 by bringing in Ishan Kishan in place of out of form Suryakumar Yadav. The hosts will have the option of fielding new recruit, West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, or all-rounder Ben Cutting in place of the off-boil Lasith Malinga. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings, might bring back Harbhajan Singh in CSK playing 11 replacing Mitchell Santner. Mumbai Indians lost their IPL 2019 opening fixture against Delhi Capitals as Rishabh Pant hammered MI bowlers all over the park including

IPL 2019, RR vs RCB preview: Laggards Royals, RCB in search of first win

Image
The Match 14 of VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) will be a battle between laggards when Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore lock horns at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday. RR and RCB have failed to win a single match so far in IPL 2019. Rajasthan Royals choked at crucial moments in their three matches whereas RCB had one of their worst start of IPL campaign this season as they were bundled out for 70 in IPL 2019 opener while went for leather hunt against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rajasthan Royals have failed to tighten the screws when it mattered most. In all three matches, they were in a good position but could not grab the moments, losing to Kings XI Punjab, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings respectively. In Chennai on Sunday, Royals had CSK reeling at 27 for three before skipper MS Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 75 off 46 balls to bail the hosts out of trouble and eventually win the game by eight runs. "We win as a team and we lose as a team

IPL 2019 KXIP vs DC Preview: Can Ashwin's Punjab break Delhi's team spirit?

Image
In match 13 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will host Delhi Capitals (DC) at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday. The clash will be interesting as both DC and KXIP won their previous IPL 2019 matches against KKR and MI and are high on confidence. K L Rahul's 71 runs off 57 balls proved instrumental for Punjab's victory and marked the return of his form. Chris Gayle has found his rhythm and his teammate Mayank Agarwal has been attacking almost every other ball. Ashwin has been shuffling his bowling department and it looks likely that he would again bring a change or two in playing 11. For Delhi, things have started to fall in places after their second match defeat against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings. Shreyas Iyer-led DC is high on confidence after they triumphed in the super over thriller against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday night. Punjab may again eye home ground advantage but Delhi will be a different chal

Dhoni unreal as captain, can lift the team even without talking much: Tahir

Image
Veteran spinner Imran Tahir described Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as "unreal", saying even without talking much he has the capability to lift the team up. Chennai Super Kings secured a thrilling eight-run win over Rajasthan Royals in their IPL match here on Sunday night as Dhoni hit a match-winning unbeaten knock of 75 off 46 balls to guide his team to a respectable total of 175 under challenging conditions. "The way he carries himself is just unreal. He won't say much but he knows how to lift the team up. He is a great leader and a great human being," Tahir said at the post-match press conference. The South African also credited Dhoni for living up to his reputation of being one the best finishers in the world and a good tactician. "You know Dhoni plays really well in these situations because like (Dwayne) Bravo he's done this so many times, and that's why he's called Mr Cool. He works hard on his game plan. E

IPL: Sanction unlikely for RCB vs MI match umpires due to lack of officials

Image
Umpire Sundaram Ravi , whose no ball howler cost Royal Challengers Bangalore heavily in an IPL match and led to an angry outburst by RCB skipper Virat Kohli, is unlikely to be sanctioned due to lack of officials with international experience on the BCCI roster. Currently there are only 11 Indian Umpires allotted for on-field and TV duty for 56 IPL games, which means Ravi might get negative marking from the match referee but BCCI can hardly take any corrective measures beyond that. "Currently we have only 17 umpires assigned on-field and for third umpires' duty. Out of them 11 are Indian and six foreigners from the Elite Panel. Apart from them, we have six more Indians as fourth umpires," a member of the now defunct Umpiring sub-committee, who is privy to allocation of assignments, told PTI on Friday. Ravi, the only Indian in the ICC's Elite Panel, failed to spot an obvious no ball from Mumbai Indians' Lasith Malinga as RCB lost by six runs under controv

IPL 2019, SRH vs RR Preview: Will Kane Williamson return to SRH playing 11?

Image
In Match 8 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Rajasthan Royals will look to turn fortunes when they lock horns Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. The Hyderabad based franchise would also be aiming to put behind a disappointing first-match show when they conceded 53 runs in last 3 overs. Bhuvneshwar along with Rashid Khan, Siddharth Kaul will be eyeing to put a much-improved death bowling show against Rajasthan. However, SRH’s regular captain Kane Williamson didn’t play the first match and it is still not clear whether he will be part of SRH playing 11 or not. Rajasthan Royals’ campaign started on a controversial note when Jos Buttler became the first cricketer in the history of IPL to be 'Mankaded', the practice of running out non-strikers, who back up early, by bowlers on their delivery stride. Chasing 185, Buttler (69) was going strong for Rajasthan when a desperate Kings XI Punjab skipper R Ashwin ran him out

IPL 2019, RCB vs MI preview: Virat Kohli will look to forget CSK drubbing

Image
In the Match 7 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Mumbai Indians (MI) would fancy their chances against an erratic Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) when the two star-studded teams square off at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. Virat Kohli's RCB, who are yet to win IPL title and regularly draw a lot of flak for that, were bundled out for 70, the sixth-lowest score in IPL history, in their first game of IPL 2019 against Chennai Super Kings. The injury of Jasprit Bumrah has given the sleepless night to India and Mumbai Indians a sleepless night after he injured his shoulder during the last ball of the Delhi Capitals innings. However, according to various media reports, he is fit as it was just a case of shoulder spasm. But it would be interesting to see whether Mumbai Indians team management will pick him in their playing 11 or give him more time to become match fit. Lasith Malinga is likely to be available for the next two Mumbai Indians IPL matc

IPL 2019, KKR vs KXIP preview: Can Kolkata ace Chris Gayle challenge?

Image
In Match 6 of VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL 2019), Kings XI Punjab will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in the backdrop of mankading controversy at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday. Skipper R Ashwin is in the eye of a storm after 'Mankading' Jos Buttler but a winning start will keep Kings XI Punjab upbeat against home favourites Kolkata Knight Riders. It was Ashwin's mankading of Jos Buttler that had triggered a dramatic collapse with Kings XI Punjab restricting Rajasthan Royals to 170 for nine to notch up a 14-run win. Buttler was looking in imperious touch with 69 from 43 balls and Rajasthan well on course to overhaul the target of 185 but following the dismissal they went on to lose eight wickets for 62 runs to hand Kings XI Punjab their maiden win in Jaipur. Though the dismissal was within the rules of the game, it sparked a huge furore with spin legend and Rajasthan Royals brand ambassador Shane Warne labelling it as "disgraceful" and against

IPL 2019: What is Mankading? Why Buttler's dismissal by Ashwin sparked row

Image
It has been barely three days since the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) kicked off in Chennai, and the blockbuster T20 championship has already got embroiled in controversy over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) captain R Ashwin's unusual dismissal of Rajasthan Royals' Jos Buttler. During the KXIP vs RR match on Monday, when Ashwin ' mankaded ' Buttler — dislodged the bails on the non-striker's end of the wicket while cutting short his bowling stance to run out BUttler, who had already stepped out of the crease before the ball was delivered — the Rajasthan Royals opening batsman became the first victim of 'Mankading' in the IPL history. The controversial dismissal of Buttler has polarised the cricket world, with some fans and former cricketers labelling Ashwin’s act disgraceful and against the spirit of the game, and others defending it as it is indeed a ligitimate way to dismiss a batsman according to cricket rule books. Also, this is not

For Virat Kohli, it couldn't be a bigger statement if his young side could start off with a bang at Mahendra Singh Dhoni's "spritual home", a task which will be easier said than done. CSK's core members are the oldest in IPL 2019: Dhoni and Shane Watson are 37, Dwayne Bravo is 35, Faf du Plessis is 34, Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav are 33, and Suresh Raina will turn 32 soon. Chennai Super Kings have two spinners with truckloads of experience: both Tahir, 39, and Harbhajan Singh, 38, have ability to change the complexion of a game with one-off over. Even the two out-of-favour India players, leg-spinner Karn Sharma, 31, and seamer Mohit Sharma, 30, are on the wrong side of th
