  India is poised to derive full benefit of global investments on 5G standards and ecosystems in the coming two-three years, as equipment prices come down and devices become available, Chairman of Bharti Airtel, Sunil Mittal said on Tuesday. Terming space as the "next frontier of communications", Mittal said India's proactive lead in the space industry and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Department of Space's call to private sector, would ensure that advantages move in the country's favour in space communication industry, as well. Speaking at India Mobile Congress 2020, a virtual event this year, Mittal said that onset of pandemic has accelerated digital adoption of various products and services.   China’s Vivo on Wednesday launched in India the Vivo V20 Pro under its V-series smartphones. Priced at Rs 29,990, the 5G smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G mobile platform. It ships with a 4,000mAh battery supported by 33W fast charger. The Vivo V20 Pro will be available in sunset melody and midnight jazz colours, starting today on online and offline retailers, besides Vivo's official website. The Vivo V20 Pro features a dual front camera system. Named ‘Eye Autofocus’, the dual front camera set-up has a 44-megapixel primary camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. Qualcomm bullish on 5G smartphone experiences, announces Snapdragon 888 SoC

  Mobile chipset company Qualcomm on Tuesday said 5G is redefining premium experiences as it provides virtually unlimited storage and cloud processing, and is fuelling the rise of more powerful services. Speaking at Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital, Qualcomm Incorporated President Cristiano Amon said innovation in the premium tier and advanced connectivity has allowed mobile phones to replace many of people's favourite devices. "In the 4G era, broadband internet and mobile computing transformed user expectations...today's smartphone is the platform for many of the services we depend on every day...We felt the shift as image sharing and music streaming cemented the smartphone's roles in our lives," he said. China is "blackmailing" India into using Huawei for its 5G infrastructure , an influential US Congressman alleged Tuesday, even as Beijing hoped that New Delhi will not succumb to any pressure from America. The US has banned Huawei, the world leader in telecom equipment and the number two smartphone producer, over concerns of security, and Washington has been putting pressure on other countries to restrict the operations of the Chinese telecom firm. Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan had earlier said that India wants to be a frontrunner in adopting 5G technology Economy & Policy News : Telecom   industry body   COAI   has said auction of spectrum for 5G services should happen only around the second half of 2019 as it would offer   telcos   better visibility into market dynamics and potential revenue streams of the next-generation mobile services. The pricing of 5G spectrum, which would be required in larger blocks or chunks than seen before, would also be "critical component of success of these auctions" that should ideally take place in the "mid to latter part of 2019", Cellular Operators' Association of India (COAI) Director General Rajan Mathews told   PTI.
