Odisha reports 886 new Covid-19 cases, 66 deaths in last 24 hours

  Odisha reported 886 new COVID-19 cases , 66 deaths and 1,463 recoveries in the last 24 hours, according to the Odisha Health Department on Sunday. A total of 886 new COVID-19 positive cases include 512 cases of quarantine transmission and 374transmissions via local contacts. The local case of the infection in the state stands at 11,486. Khurda reported the highest COVID-19 cases at 253, followed by Cuttack at 81 cases and Balasore at 62. The total COVID-19 cases in the state reached 9,87,956. Meanwhile, Odisha's total recoveries now stand at 9,69,916. However, the total death toll mounted to 6,501. The state has so far conducted 1,66,26,905 samples for COVID-19. Read More

Covid: Odisha to allow vaccination for vulnerable people without ID proof

  Odisha on Wednesday reported 10,982 new COVID-19 cases and 17 more deaths, a Health Department official said. The cases were detected after testing 49,191 samples on Tuesday, taking the test positivity rate (TPR) to 22.32 per cent. The state's TPR has been over 20 per cent since Friday. There are 98,230 active cases in the state at present. Odisha has so far reported 5,65,648 cases and 2,232 deaths, the official said. Of the new infections, 6,149 were reported from quarantine centres while the remaining 4,833 were local contact cases, he said. Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the highest 1,539 new cases, followed by Sundergarh (964), Cuttack (885), Angul (539) and Sambalpur (454). These five districts account for 40 per cent of the new cases reported during the day, the official said. Only Malkangiri out of the 30 districts recorded cases less than 100. Read More

Covid-19: Odisha becomes the first state to extend lockdown till April 30

The Odisha government on Thursday decided to extend the ongoing lockdown in the state till April 30 to effectively contain the spread of coronavirus . Schools and other education institutions will remain closed till June 17, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced after a video conference with his ministers. "We have decided to extend the lockdown period till April 30 and a recommendation in this regard will be sent to the Centre," he said in a video message. Patnaik said the state has also urged the Centre to stop train and flight services to Odisha till April 30. Odisha has recorded 44 positive cases of coronavirus so far. Read More

Cyclone Fani killed 64 people, affected 140,000 hectare crop area: Govt

As many as 64 people had died and over 140,000 hectare crop area affected due to cyclone Fani in Odisha, the Home Ministry said on Tuesday. Cyclone Fani affected three states -- Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. In Odisha, 64 lives were lost, 556,000 houses and huts were damaged, 6,281 cattle were lost, 148,663 hectare of crop land affected and 6,416 boats and 8,828 nets were damaged, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha in a written reply. "In addition, infrastructure like roads, power, railway, telecommunications etc. were also damaged in Odisha," he said. There was no loss of human lives in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. A total of 222 houses/huts were damaged, 28 cattle were lost and 1,365 hectare crop area was damaged in Andhra Pradesh, he said.
