  Qualcomm Inc on Tuesday released its new top-tier smartphone chip aimed at premium-priced Android phones with features like sharper photos and graphics than handsets using chips from rivals. The San Diego, California-based company is the biggest supplier of the chips at the heart of many Android phones, competing against rivals such as Taiwan's MediaTek Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, which uses Qualcomm chips in some of its phones but self-supplies chips for some models. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip released Tuesday will have similar computing cores to rivals like MediaTek, which this month announced a chip aimed at premium phones.   Some of the world’s largest technology companies are complaining to US antitrust regulators about Nvidia Corp’s acquisition of Arm because the deal will harm competition in an area of the industry that is vital to their businesses. Alphabet Inc’s Google, Microsoft Corp. and Qualcomm Inc. are among companies worried about the $40 billion deal and are urging antitrust officials to intervene, said people familiar with the process who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorised to speak publicly.   Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled its flagship smartphone " Mi 11 " in the global market through a virtual event that features Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform, making it one of the first smartphones to come with this processor. The smartphone comes in two storage variants -- 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB at Euro 749 and Euro 799, respectively -- and it will be available from March.   Vivo on Monday launched the Vivo Y51A in India at Rs 17,990. The smartphone boasts 48-megapixel based triple camera set-up on the back, 5,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charge and reverse wired charging support, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor. The Vivo Y51A sports a 6.58-inch screen of fullHD+ (2408×1080) resolution. It comes with side fingerprint sensor for screen unlock.   Chinese technology company Xiaomi on Tuesday launched in India the Mi 10i 5G smartphone . The Mi 10i will be available in Pacific Sunrise, Midnight Black, and Atlantic Blue colour variants. The smartphones comes in 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB RAM and on-board storage variants priced at Rs 20,099, Rs 21,999, and Rs 23,999, respectively.   Mobile chipset company Qualcomm on Tuesday said 5G is redefining premium experiences as it provides virtually unlimited storage and cloud processing, and is fuelling the rise of more powerful services. Speaking at Snapdragon Tech Summit Digital, Qualcomm Incorporated President Cristiano Amon said innovation in the premium tier and advanced connectivity has allowed mobile phones to replace many of people's favourite devices. "In the 4G era, broadband internet and mobile computing transformed user expectations...today's smartphone is the platform for many of the services we depend on every day...We felt the shift as image sharing and music streaming cemented the smartphone's roles in our lives," he said. MediaTek launches Helio G95 mobile processor for gaming-centric smartphones

Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek on Tuesday launched a new gaming-focused chipset for premium 4G smartphones. Named the MediaTek Helio G95 , it is the latest addition to the MediaTek Helio G Series family aimed at gaming-centric smartphones. "MediaTek continues to enhance its G series gaming chips to deliver robust performance and MediaTek Helio G95 is our most powerful gaming chip to date," Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager, Wireless Communications Business Unit, MediaTek, said in a statement. ASUS ROG Phone 3 to debut with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC on July 22

Taiwanese electronics maker ASUS is gearing up to launch the third iteration of its gaming-centric ROG-series smartphone in India on July 22. Chinese behemoth BBK Group's smartphone brand iQOO on Tuesday launched its first flagship smartphone iQOO 3 with 5G capabilities in India, starting from Rs 36,990. Apple Inc. infringes a Qualcomm Inc. patent and some imported iPhones should be blocked from the U.S. as a result, a U.S. trade judge said in one of two cases before the U.S. International Trade Commission. ITC Judge MaryJoan McNamara said she would be recommending an import ban on certain model iPhones, which are made in China, according to a notice posted on the Washington agency’s electronic docket. The judge found no violation of two other Qualcomm patents in the case. The judge’s findings are subject to review by the full commission, which has the power to block imports of products that infringe U.S. patents. A final decision is expected by July. Chip supplier Qualcomm Inc on Tuesday unveiled a new generation of mobile phone processor chips that will power 5G smartphones in the United States as soon as next year. The key feature of the Snapdragon 855 chip, launched at an event in Hawaii, is a so-called modem for phones to connect to 5G wireless data networks with mobile data speeds of up to 50 or 100 times faster than current 4G networks. Mobile carriers are investing in 5G networks and are eager to sell 5G phones and data plans to recoup investment costs.
