  Digital current affairs and news portals along with online content providers such as Netflix and Hotstar have been brought under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central government said in an order. Presently, India does not have an autonomous body that governs online content. The notification, which was signed by President Ram Nath Kovind, detailed that films, audio-visual programmes, news and current affairs content online platforms be brought under the ministry of information and broadcasting, presently headed by Prakash Javadekar. The print media is currently overlooked by the Press Council of India and the News Broadcasters Association represents television news channels in the country. Netflix tests low-cost subscription plan. Check price, compare with others

Netflix is offering a HD subscription at Rs 349 per month, as a part of its new test plan. The new subscription plan supports smartphone, tablet or even computer but can be used one device at a time. Since the plan is currently in testing so everyone may not see it. The new test plan spotted by Android Pure is much affordable than the Netflix's basic plan. At Rs 499 per month, the basic plan offers Standard Definition streaming on any phone, tablet, computer or TV at a time. Its rivals including Prime videos by Amazon and Disney Hotstar offer subscriptions at different prices.   Prime videos provide monthly subscription at Rs 129 per month. Disney+ now available on Hotstar; no changes in subscription plans

Hotstar has launched the Disney+ service on its platform. Exclusive Disney content is now available on the platform. Series like Timon and Pumbaa, Atlantis and many more are now available for the VIP users of the streaming service. Interestingly, no extra charges have been levied for Disney. Most of the Disney titles are available in English and a few India languages like Hindu, Tamil, Telugu, etc. However, The original English version of the shows is available to Premium users only. VIP users can access the Indian language dubbed version, and not the English version. Disney had announced in February that its subscription-based streaming service Disney Plus, which launched in the US in November, 2019, would arrive in India on March 29 through its Hotstar app. The announcement was made by Disney CEO Robert Iger during the company's quarterly earnings call. Tata Sky Binge would be accessible through the Amazon FireTV Stick – Tata Sky Edition, an exclusive offering that will allow subscribers to stream digital content from a diverse mix of apps through a single platform and single subscription fee. The service will initially offer digital content from, Hotstar, Sun NXT, Eros NOW, Hungama Play via a single subscription fee of Rs 249 a month .Subscribers will also have access to over 5000 titles from the Tata Sky video on demand (VOD) library along with various TV shows of the past 7 days. Star India's Hotstar introduces new pricing and cash payment option

Star India’s video streaming service Hotstar has introduced a new pricing package in a bid to attract the mass viewer who consumes live sports and TV content on the platform. Currently, there are two subscription options — a premium package at Rs 199 a month, and a sports pack at Rs 299 a year. From March 20, the sports pack will be discontinued, and be replaced by the Hotstar VIP pack, priced at Rs 365 a year initially.
