Cyberattack hobbles Universal Health Service's hospitals across US

  Computer systems across a major hospital chain with facilities across the nation were down on Monday due to what the company termed an unspecified technology security issue". Doctors and nurses had to rely on paper. Universal Health Services Inc, which operates more than 250 hospitals and other clinical facilities in the US, said in a short statement posted to its website on Monday that its network was offline and doctors and nurses were resorting to back-up processes including paper records. The Fortune 500 company, with 90,000 employees, said patient care continues to be delivered safely and effectively and no patient or employee data appeared to have been accessed, copied or misused". The company also has hospitals in the United Kingdom, but its operations in that country were not affected, a spokeswoman said on Monday night. Read More

PM's personal Twitter account hacked, company says investigation underway

  Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's account on the micro-blogging website Twitter was hacked briefly. The social media giant confirmed the compromise and said "active investigation" was underway. The hack appears to have happened during the wee hours of Thursday and the hacker group John Wick posted tweets appeared urging followers to make donations to 'PM National Relief Fund for COVID-19' through cryptocurrency. The account is linked to Modi's personal website narendramodi.in and has around 2.5 million followers since it was created in May 2011. "We're aware of this activity and have taken steps to secure the compromised account. We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted," said Twitter India spokeswoman in response to queries. Read More               

Lack of robust IT security system key reason behind rising cyber attacks

Lack of robust IT security system in organisations is the key reason behind increasing cyberattacks as 65 per cent of the participant organisations do not even have a department to manage network security, says a survey. According to the survey conducted by risk and integrity management firm Netrika Consulting, only 18 per cent organisations have dedicated IT staff where more than 25 persons are employed, while 21 per cent companies do not have dedicated employees. Netrika Consulting's survey noted that Indian corporates are not very regular in assessing their cyber security which leads to regular loss due to cyber attacks. Here's what to do Just 44 per cent participant companies confirmed that they conducted IT security audit in last 6 months in their organisations, while 56 per cent stated that during last six months no IT security audit was undertaken in their organisation.
