Google Duo now allows up to 32 people participants in a group video call

Google on Wednesday announced that the technology giant has raised the group video participants limit to 32 from 12. At 32 participants, Google Duo is now on par with Apple's FaceTime, but still less than Skype's 50 people limit and Zoom which allows as many as 100 users (500 if used with the 'Large Meeting' add on). "Today, one of our most requested features for Duo, group calling on the web with up to 32 people, is starting to roll out on the latest version of Chrome," tweeted Sanaz Ahari, Google's senior director of product and design. The search engine giant is also rolling out a new video codec technology to improve video call quality and reliability, even on very low-bandwidth connections. Read More

Mitron app crosses 5mn downloads despite ambiguity around privacy, security

Home-grown short-video making platform Mitron app has clocked more than five million downloads in a month on Google Play Store. Besides, the app has received positive ratings, which stands at 4.8 stars out of 5 as on May 29. Released on April 11, the app’s popularity in India shot up in last couple of weeks owing to anti-China sentiments. Moreover, the growing criticism for TikTok over violent content on the platform also paves way for the Mitron app to shot into spotlight as a local alternative to the Chinese app. The Mitron app offers utility similar to TikTok. It is a content creation app, which allows users to create short-videos that can either be published on the app or shared with others. TikTok hits 2 bn downloads; becomes most installed app amid Covid-19 crisis

TikTok has surpassed two billion downloads worldwide on the App Store and Google Play. The latest milestone comes just five months after TikTok surpassed 1.5 billion downloads. In Q1 2020, it generated the most downloads for any app ever in a quarter, accumulating more than 315 million installs across the App Store and Google Play. TikTok's latest surge comes amid the global Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen consumers drawn to their mobile devices more than ever as they look for new ways to shop, work, and connect with others. In India, the short video making app leads the chart with more than 600 million downloads or about 30.3 per cent of all unique installs. China is the second leading country for installs, accumulating 196.6 million to date, or 9.7 per cent of all downloads, for its version of the app, known as Douyin, reported mobile intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
