59 banned Chinese apps go off Google Play, Apple App Store in India

The 59 Chinese apps banned by the government have been taken down from Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India, blocking their access to mobile phone users in the country. The government had on Monday banned 59 Chinese applications saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country. A day later popular short video app TikTok was taken down from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The other 58 Chinese apps have now been removed. Google said that it has temporarily blocked access to the banned apps on its India Play Store. "While we continue to review the interim orders from the Government of India, we have notified the affected developers and have temporarily blocked access to the apps that remained available on the Play Store in India," a Google spokesperson said. Apple Inc co-founder Steve Wozniak joined in the online debate over accusations of gender discrimination by the algorithm behind the iPhone maker's credit card , fuelling scrutiny of the newly launched Apple Card. The criticism started on Thursday, after entrepreneur David Heinemeier Hansson railed against the Apple Card in a series of Twitter posts, saying it gave him 20 times the credit limit his wife received. The much anticipated titanium credit card, part of a broader effort by Apple to derive greater revenue from services after years of heavy reliance on iPhone sales, was launched in August, in partnership with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Students with an Apple Music subscription of $4.99 per month, will now be able to enjoy Apple TV+ at no extra cost after its launch on Friday. The deal was revealed in an Instagram story by Hailee Steinfeld, who stars in Dickinson, a new show on the service and later it was confirmed by the Apple on Wednesday, CNET reported. Steinfeld announced the bundle deal by saying that "For those of you who are students and are subscribed to Apple Music student subscription, now can get Apple TV+ for free." Apple Music costs $9.99 per month for individuals and a family plan for $15 per month in the US. The Apple Music student subscription currently is $4.99 per month, which provides full access to Apple Music's catalogue of 50 million songs, live local radio stations and more.
