LG Electronics to expand streaming service LG Channels on smart televisions

  LG Electronics on Tuesday said it will expand its streaming service on smart TVs as the tech giant tries to increase its presence amid the pandemic-driven stay-at-home trend. The South Korean company said LG Channels will be launched in an additional 11 European countries, including Switzerland and the Netherlands, within this year. LG Channels, LG's free content streaming service set up in 2015, is currently available in 14 countries providing some 1,600 channels, but that will be expanded to 25 countries with 1,900 channels, it added. In South Korea, users can watch 144 channels for free. To show more content from the Korean Wave, referring to the global popularity of Korean culture, the company said YG TV, which offers exclusive content from YG Entertainment, and New K. LG to allow other companies to use its webOS smart TV platform

  LG Electronics said on Wednesday its smart TV platform will be used by other TV makers this year as the company eyes boosting its software capability. LG said some 20 TV manufacturers, including RCA, Konka and Ayonz, will release TVs installed with its webOS platform. To attract more TV brands using its smart TV platform, LG said it has also signed partnerships with streaming giants like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon, as well as remote controls solution provider Universal Electronics Inc.   LG Electronics on Tuesday said Google's cloud gaming service will be available on its smart TVs as the South Korean tech powerhouse eyes to expand its TV sales with better service offerings. LG said it will be the first TV manufacturer to support Google's Stadia via its smart TV platform webOS. The company expects the new service to be launched on its smart TVs in the second half of 2021. "Supporting Stadia on LG TVs is our commitment to customers that gaming is an increasingly important feature expected by LG TV owners," said Lee Sang-woo, a senior vice president at LG's Home Entertainment business division. "Stadia is changing how people access their favorite games and by providing webOS compatibility, we're making an early commitment to the platform." LG's OLED panel becomes the first to receive eye protection certification

  LG Display , the world's leading large size OLED panel maker , said on Tuesday that its organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panel has received an eye protection certification for low blue light emission. Its OLED display became the industry's first TV panel to win an accreditation from Eyesafe, a U.S.-based eye protection certification agency, according to LG Display. Eyesafe developed standards for eye protection in cooperation with TUV Rheinland AG, a German technical test service and certification organisation. It measures blue light, which can cause sore eyes and even sleep disorders when people are excessively exposed to it, reports Yonhap news agency. The certification requirements state that the proportion of harmful blue light out of a product's total blue light emissions must be less than 50 per cent. Read More

Samsung, LG unveil plans to foster future growth engines in 2021

  South Korea's two electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG on Monday vowed to foster their future growth engines in 2021 as they unveiled New Year's goals amid the pandemic. Samsung, the world's largest smartphone and TV vendor, said it aims to actively cope with social and economic changes induced by the COVID-19 pandemic so that 2021 can be the year that provides a platform for its future growth. "The transition to the era of data and intelligence is accelerating with the rise of new technologies and businesses," Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Kim Ki-nam, who leads the company's chip business, said in the company's New Year kickoff meeting held online. LG W30 review: Affordable phone, good design but lacks performance

Korean tech giant LG is betting on new India-first 'W' series of smartphones to woo consumers in the hyper-competitive Indian phone market, and grab double-digit share over the next two years. LG will introduce five devices under its W series , which will be available online in partnership with Amazon.in, as it aims to sell about one million units by December-end. Competing against majors like Xiaomi and Samsung, LG will also bring in smartphones from its global portfolio to the Indian market. "We reached out to our headquarters about a year ago to request them for an India-specific portfolio and after deliberations, they allowed us. South Korean electronics manufacturer LG recently launched the LG G7 ThinQ   in India, exclusively on Flipkart. First introduced in May this year, the phone is a late entrant in the country’s smartphone market. However, for its price tag of Rs 39,990, it offers a solid list of specifications and features that make it count as a flagship smartphone. Design and display Built on the template of the LG V30+ and the LG G6, the LG G7 offers the best of both worlds in a package that looks premium. The phone has a glass-metal-glass design, a notch-based 6.1-inch QHD screen on the front, and a four-side (4D) curved glass on the back. In terms of best-selling models, OnePlus 6 was the best in the premium segment followed by Samsung S9 Plus and OnePlus 5T Technology News : Riding on the success of its OnePlus 6 device, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus controlled 40 per cent of the premium segment in India in the second quarter of 2018, a new report has said. Samsung accounted for 34 per cent share of the premium segment, while Apple's share of the market reduced to 14 per cent - its lowest ever. According to Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research, the premium smartphone segment (Rs 30,000 and above) grew 19 per cent annually and 10 per cent sequentially during Q2 2018. "The uptick in consumer demand in the premium segment was driven by increasing offers around the new launches as compared to a year ago," said the report, released late on Monday.
