Fire erupts in Mumbai GST Bhavan, no casualties; rescue operation underway

A massive fire broke out on the top floors of the ground plus eight-storied GST Bhavan here at Byculla on Monday morning, officials said. At least five fire-tenders were deployed to battle the blaze even as thick clouds of smoke billowed out of the upper two floors. At Kumbh this year, Vodafone-Idea tries to ensure families aren't separated

Vodafone Idea has launched a slew of initiatives for ongoing Kumbh mela, including Milaap service aimed at ensuing safety of children and senior citizens, as well as location alerts and other digital solutions, the company said Thursday. The Milaap services, involves providing RFID (radio frequency identification) tags to children and senior citizens along with the details of parents or guardians. "These RFID tags - enabled with a simple identification process will allow local authorities or police to take any child or senior citizen found unaccompanied or under a panic situation to visit the nearest Vodafone Milaap or Khoya Paya booth. On flashing these RFID tags on the RFID reader, the concerned parent's contact details will be accessed," Vodafone Idea, that owns the Vodafone brand of mobile services, said in a statement. The family member will receive the details of the concerned booth from where they can re-unite with their child, the statement explained.

Mumbai: BEST employees refuse to end strike until their demands are met

There seems to be no end to woes of scores of commuters in Mumbai as an indefinite strike called by employees of the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) continued for the fourth consecutive day on Friday. At least 32,000 employees of Mumbai's civic transport from a long time have been demanding for merging of BEST budget with 'A' budget of BMC. They are also seeking resolution of the issue of employee service residences and recruitment. When the talks with the authorities failed, the employees resorted to the strike . BEST, the lifeline of Mumbai has a fleet size of as many as 3200 buses. Deepika Padukone has made it to the top five of Forbes India's 2018 list of richest Indians, becoming the first woman to do so. The newly-wed actor - whose 'Padmaavat' went on to break many records - raked in a phenomenal Rs 112.8 crore this year to become the highest-earning woman celebrity. According to the publication, there are 18 women on the list (which first came out in 2012) - down from 21 in 2017. Maintaining his position on the top for the third time is superstar Salman Khan . With earnings amounting to Rs 253.25 crore, the 52-year-old became India's highest-paid celebrity on the list. Apart from them, while India cricket captain Virat Kohli bagged the second spot (Rs 228.09 crore), Akshay Kumar held the third place with a total gross of Rs 185 crore. RBI to soon issue new Rs 100 note in lavender colour

The Reserve Bank today said it will soon issue new Rs 100 notes in lavender colour having motif of Rani ki vav' a stepwell located on the banks of Saraswati river in Gujarat's Patan. "All Rs 100 banknotes issued earlier will also continue to be legal tender," the central bank said while announcing the issue of the new Rs 100 notes. The base colour of the note is Lavender. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse. Dimension of the banknote will be 66 mm x 142 mm, making it smaller than the current Rs 100 notes. The size of current Rs 100 notes is 157 mm x 73 mm "As is normal, when a new design of banknote is introduced, printing and supply of these notes for distribution to public through the banking channel will gradually increase," said the RBI, which issues currency in the country. A six-storey under-construction building fell on an adjacent building in Shah Beri village under the Bisrakh police station last night. The second building also collapsed under the impact. At least 12 labourers were in the under-construction building when the incident took place and all of them were feared trapped, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Arun Kumar Singh said.
