Republic Day violence: Deep Sidhu's police custody extended by 7 days

  A Delhi Court on Tuesday extended Punjabi actor-turned-singer Deep Sidhu's police custody by seven more days in the Republic Day violence case . Sidhu, arrested from Karnal bypass in Haryana on February 9, has been touted by Delhi Police as the 'main instigator' of the violence which took place on the Republic Day at the Red Fort. Delhi Police Crime Branch is probing if the violence was part of a larger conspiracy. On February 9, the court had sent him to seven-days custody of the police for interrogation. While in custody, Sidhu along with another accused Iqbal Singh were taken to the Red Fort to recreate the scene of events that unfolded at the historic monument on the Republic Day. The last custody was sought for multitude of reasons, including to visit Mumbai, Punjab and Haryana to explore links, identify and arrest his supporters and recover phones with different SIM cards used by him. Farmers' protest: Delhi Police removes nails from Ghazipur border

  The Delhi Police on Thursday removed the nails that were placed near the farmers' protest site at the Ghazipur border as a security measure. The police had taken the step in view of the violence during the farmers' protest tractor march on Republic day. The nails were removed around 11 a.m. When the workers were asked about this, they did not give any reply and the policemen at the barricades also remained silent. The action seems to have been taken after MPs from 10 opposition parties reached the Ghazipur border to meet the farmers. Delhi police include online delivery companies in 'essential services' list

To resolve issues faced by the citizens during the entire lockdown period in the country due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak , the Delhi Police have included several online service delivery and diagnostic laboratories in the list of essential services that will be allowed to operate in Delhi during the 21-day lockdown. 21-day lockdown: E-commerce firms set to resume work after police assurance

Walmart-owned Flipkart said on Wednesday it would resume services and Amazon said it was working with the government to enable its deliveries after state governments reached out to the firms, which had temporarily stopped accepting new orders amid reports of police high-handedness. The Delhi police issued a statement saying they were proactively engaging with e-commerce portals and were issuing passes to ensure agents were able to commute seamlessly and deliver essential goods to residents during the 21-day lockdown. The Bengaluru police, too, came out with guidelines for issuing curfew passes. Nirbhaya case most critical in 37-year career, says ex-Delhi Police chief

Neeraj Kumar, who headed the Delhi Police when Nirbhaya was gang-raped and murdered in 2012, on Friday said it was the "most critical" case in his 37-year career. Delhi violence: CBSE to reschedule exams for students not able to appear

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday said school principals had been requested to provide a list of students who would not be able to appear in the board exams to be conducted till March 7 in the violence-affected areas. For these students, exams would be held at a later date. "Considering the difficult situation that continues with some of the candidates, the CBSE is prepared to hold examinations at a later date for such candidates who would not be able to appear for the examinations up to 7th March," said CBSE in a statement. The Delhi High Court had on Friday said shifting the examination centres at this time was not a viable option and asked Delhi Police to ensure proper security at the centres in violence-hit Northeast district of the national capital. A single-judge Bench of Justice Rajiv Shakdhar had also impleaded the Delhi government as a party to the proceedings and slated the matter for further hearing on March 4. Read More

Delhi violence: 20 dead, Cong slams police, govt for inaction; 10 updates

At least 20 people have been killed in the Delhi during violent clashes between Hindu and Muslim groups over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), according to GTB Hospital authorities, although there was an eerie calm on Wednesday in the riot-torn areas. "There are 15 patients in critical condition," the hospital official from the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital said, adding a total of 20 people had now died at the facility. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal the situation has become "alarming" and asked the Centre to bring in the Army. Meanwhile, the high court has directed police to respond by 12:30 pm on Wednesday to a plea seeking lodging of FIRs and arrests of those involved in the ongoing communal violence in parts of northeast Delhi over CAA.
