Telangana registers 887 coronavirus cases, 4 fatalities in last 24 hours

  In the continuing spike in Covid-19 cases , Telangana reported 887 new cases during the last 24 hours, health officials said on Thursday. This is the highest single-day jump in cases this year. The state had reported 684 cases the previous day. Greater Hyderabad, which was the worst hit in the earlier phase last year, is again witnessing the surge. The state's capital's daily count crossed 200. Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts bordering Hyderabad reported 79 and 76 cases respectively. Other districts also saw spike in cases during the last 24 hours that ended 8 p.m. Wednesday. Nirmal reported 78 new cases while 56 new infections were detected in Jagtiyal. Nizamabad saw 45 new cases followed by Sangareddy (36), Kamareddy (27), Karimnagar (23), Warangal Urban (23), Mahaboobnagar (22), Siddipet (21) and Nalgonda (21). Read More

Four more deaths, 463 new Covid-19 cases in Telangana in past 24 hours

  The upward trend in COVID-19 cases continued in Telangana with 463 new infections being reported, pushing the total positives to 3.07 lakh, while the toll rose to 1,694 with four more fatalities. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) saw the most number of cases with 145, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri and Ranariddh districts with 46 and 28 cases respectively, a state government bulletin said on Tuesday providing details as of 8 PM on March 29. The bulletin said 364 patients recovered from the infection on March 29. The cumulative recovered cases stood at 3,00,833, while 4,678 were under treatment. It said 42,461 samples were tested on March 29. Cumulatively, the number of samples tested was 1 crore. The samples tested per million populations was 2,71,238, it said. Read More

More than 1,000 migrant workers in Mumbai gathered outside the station in Bandra on Tuesday and demanded transportation arrangements to go back to their hometowns, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the extension of the ongoing nationwide lockdown till May 3. Surviving on food from charitable institutions and living in cramped houses, the distressed people swarmed the station at around 3 pm on Tuesday, without any plan in mind. Covid-19: 17 new cases in Andhra Pradesh, 13 traced to Nizamuddin meet

A day after the Telangana government announced the death of 6 coronavirus patients from the state - all linked to Nizamuddin visit in Delhi, 17 new positive cases were registered on Tuesday. Thirteen of the new cases have been traced back to the religious congregation at the Markaz Tablighi Jamaat. With the additional 17 new cases in a single day, the total number of confirmed coronavirus patients in Andhra Pradesh has jumped to 40, spread across nine out of the thirteen districts in the state. Prakasham and Guntur districts have registered the largest number of 11 and 9 coronavirus cases respectively. It may be noted that most of many of those who attended the Markaz religious congregation in Nizamuddin have either tested positive or are being tracked and kept in quarantine in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Number of confirmed coronavirus cases jumps to 13 from 7 in Telangana

Telangana government has pressed the emergency buttons by arranging to send 100 teams to Karimnagar after a group of 8 Indonesians, who travelled to this north Telangana district, tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday. After tracing the the group's movement and interacting with locals in the district, government agencies pressed these medical teams to do a door-to-door screening for a possible contagion from these coronavirus patients. The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state jumped to 13 from 7 after the entire group of Indonesian travelers was found to be infected with coronavirus. One member of the group tested positive for the virus initially. According to the officials of the government medical department, all the 13 cases detected so far have been those who came from different countries and there was no indication as yet that others have contracted the virus from these persons. Telangana IPE exams: Helpline launched to address students' grievances

A helpline number has been launched for addressing grievances of students appearing for the Intermediate Public Theory Examinations (IPE)-March 2020 in Telangana. A dedicated phone number has also been made available to look into any stress-related issues among students. Chitra Ramachandran, Special Chief Secretary, Higher Education, while addressing the media, said that Stress Release Counselors have also been appointed in the colleges to assist students who are appearing for the exam. "Stress Release Counselors have been appointed in each college. They have been trained adequately and will be available to address any stress-related issues." The examinations are scheduled to take place from March 4 to March 23 from 08:45 am to 12:00 pm. Major examinations will conclude on March 18. Nirbhaya's parents welcome Hyderabad encounter, Tharoor advocates caution

Amid questions being raised on circumstances surrounding the encounter deaths on Friday of the four accused in the gang rape and murder case of the veterinarian in Hyderabad, Nirbhaya's parents welcomed the move while Congress leader Shashi Tharoor struck a note of caution. The mother of Nirbhaya, the 23-year-old paramedic student who died days after being gang raped in December 2012, appealed to authorities to not punish the policemen involved in the encounter. Nirbhaya's father also welcomed the encounter and said the family's wait for justice ended early. "The family of the Hyderabad doctor will not have to wait for justice for seven years like us. Police did the right thing," he said. Congress leader and Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor, however, said extra judicial killings were not acceptable. Read More
