270 doctors have succumbed to Covid in second wave of pandemic: IMA

  The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday said 270 doctors across the country have succumbed to the coronavirus infection in the second wave of the pandemic so far. The list of the deceased doctors includes former IMA president Dr K K Aggarwal, who succumbed to the deadly virus on Monday. Bihar saw the maximum number of 78 deaths of medical practitioners, followed by Uttar Pradesh (37), Delhi (29) and Andhra Pradesh (22). According to the IMA COVID-19 registry, 748 doctors succumbed to the disease in the first wave of the pandemic. "Last year, 748 doctors across India succumbed to COVID-19, while in the current wave, in a short period, we have lost 270 doctors. "The second wave of the pandemic is turning out to be extremely fatal for all and especially for the healthcare workers who are at the forefront," IMA president Dr JA Jayalal said. Read More

548 doctors and other healthcare professionals infected in India: Report

Coronavirus has infected around 548 doctors, nurses and paramedics India according to data maintained by the central goverment, news agency PTI reported quoting unnamed sources. The figure does not include field workers, ward boys, sanitation workers, security guards, lab attendants, peons, laundry and kitchen staff among others. According to an official source, it has not been ascertained from where these doctors, nurses and paramedic staff have acquired the infection. Read More

Delhi cancer hospital shut after doctor tests positive for coronavirus

Delhi State Cancer Institute has been shut for a day after a doctor tested positive for COVID-19 , an official said on Wednesday. According to the official, the Delhi government-run institute is being disinfected and that is why it has been shut for a day. The doctor, who tested positive for coronavirus, worked at the institute. The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi climbed to 120 on Tuesday after 23 new cases of the disease were reported. These 120 cases include 24 people who took part in a religious congregation at the Markaz in Nizamuddin West earlier this month. Till Monday night, the number of cases of the deadly COVID-19 stood at 97, including two deaths. Read More
