Google Cloud rolls out database migration service for enterprises

  Google Cloud has announced that its serverless Database Migration Service (DMS) is available in Preview, that will make it easy for enterprise customers to move production databases to the cloud. It would enable customers to migrate MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server databases to Cloud SQL from on-premises environments or other clouds. Database migration is a complex process for most businesses. "With Database Migration Service, we're delivering a simplified and highly compatible product experience so that, no matter where our customers are starting from, they have an easy, and secure way to migrate their databases to Cloud SQL," said Andi Gutmans, General Manager, and Vice President, Engineering, Databases at Google Cloud. With DMS, customers can take advantage of its native replication capabilities and avoid incompatibilities between source and destination, especially for metadata operations. Read More

Be very aware of consequences if Section 230 is tweaked: Sundar Pichai

  Section 230 makes it possible for Google to provide access to a wide range of information -- including high-quality local journalism -- while responsibly protecting people from harm and keeping their information private, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai has said. Appearing before a US Senate hearing along with Twitter CEI Jack Dorsey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg late on Wednesday, Pichai said: "I would urge the Committee to be very thoughtful about any changes to Section 230 and to be very aware of the consequences those changes might have on businesses and customers". Section 230 states that "no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider". Under the US law, Internet firms are typically exempt from liability for content that users post on platforms. Read More

Google bets on India's digital future, to invest Rs 75,000 cr in 5-7 yrs

Google on Monday announced Google for India Digitization Fund worth $10 billion (Rs 75,000 crore), which the technology giant would invest in India over the next 5-7 years. The investment will be done through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments. Calling India's digital journey far from complete, Pichai announced the Google for India Digitization Fund that will invest nearly $ 10 billion in India over 5-7 years. "We’ll do this through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments. Google employees to protest company's handling of sexual harassment case

Hundreds of Google engineers and other workers are expected to walk off the job Thursday morning to protest the internet company's lenient treatment of executives accused of sexual misconduct. It is the latest expression of a backlash against men's exploitation of female subordinates in a business, entertainment and politics. In Silicon Valley, women also are becoming fed up with the male-dominated composition of the technology industry's workforce a glaring imbalance that critics say fosters unsavory behaviour akin to a college fraternity house. Back in 1998, two PhD students from Stanford University launched a new search engine with a bold mission to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. 20 years since then, there has been no looking back and two tech nerds, Larry Page and Sergey Brin began their journey to change the internet. According to Wikipedia, Page and Brin originally nicknamed their new search engine "BackRub", because the system checked backlinks to estimate the importance of a site. Technology News  :  Making the competition in  Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered assistants space tougher, Google on Tuesday announced that people will soon have a choice of choosing from six voices, including one of musician John Legend, to talk to “Google Assistant”.At its annual developer conference Google I/O, the company said these six options, which feature both male and female voices, would be rolled out later this year.Company CEO Sundar Pichai said that Google has been working on newer and more life-like version of its spoken AI that features a natural voice that is “closer to how humans speak.” The improvements include more natural pauses “that have meaning” and other subtleties to help create a “more natural dialogue” with Assistant. This new version of the Assistant is built on a tech machine learni
