Covid-19 Factoid: Confirmed cases in Gujarat are doubling every six days



The global tally of the novel coronavirus pandemic has now breached the grim milestone of 2.5 million cases. Among closed cases, almost two out of every 10 cases on an average have ended up in deaths worldwide. In India, the death toll has now crossed 600, and the number of confirmed cases are close to breaching the 19,000 mark. However, growth in new cases daily has been declining for two days now.

1. Iran on a rapid recovery path
Iran, one of the first countries to witness the coronavirus outbreak outside of China, is now on a definite path to recovery. The country’s recovery rate has more than doubled in the past 20 days to 71 per cent. Iran, which is among 10 most affected countries globally, has reported 84,802 confirmed cases and 5,297 fatalities in the pandemic. Read More

G7 pledges 870 mn Covid vaccine doses, half to be delivered by 2021-end

  Leaders of G7 countries have agreed in an agreement at their summit to share at least 870 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines directly, at least half of which are to be delivered by the end of 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday. In a statement, the WHO said the G7 countries have reaffirmed their support for COVAX, a WHO-led international campaign for equitable access to Covid-19 vaccines globally, as "the primary route for providing vaccines to the poorest countries", Xinhua news agency reported. While welcoming the G7's commitment, COVAX partners have also called for their continued support for exporting the vaccines in significant proportions, promotion of voluntary licensing and not-for-profit global production. COVAX has been facing an urgent supply gap, according to the WHO, and is focused on securing as many shared doses as possible immediately.
